Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe has officially stated that President Bola Tinubu’s government does not intend to raise electricity rates. Tegbe announced this update during an Abuja press conference on Friday.
He emphasized that the current administration is focused on enhancing service quality, increasing nationwide electricity access, and enforcing a system where citizens are billed exclusively for the energy they use. Recent data shows that the nation has maintained a steady output of 5,000 megawatts over the past two weeks.
Tegbe specifically aimed to quiet public speculation regarding rising costs. He reaffirmed that the primary goal is ensuring reliable power supply to residences across the nation through universal metering and improved infrastructure. These assurances serve as a direct response to concerns sparked by comments from Sadiq Wanka, the Special Adviser on Power Infrastructure, which had previously prompted backlash from consumers regarding a potential price surge.
