Axel Rudakubana, the perpetrator behind the Southport killings, has been hit with four new criminal charges stemming from his time in custody. These allegations include two counts of assaulting emergency personnel and one count of possessing a prohibited weapon within the prison facility. Authorities confirmed that these incidents occurred at HMP Belmarsh between May and October 2025.
The 19-year-old is currently serving a life sentence for the 2024 attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance event, which resulted in the deaths of Elsie Dot Stancombe, Bebe King, and Alice da Silva Aguiar, along with the injury of several others. Following his sentencing in January 2025, Rudakubana was recently transferred to a secure psychiatric unit.
A remote hearing for the new charges is scheduled for 11 September at Westminster Magistrates’ Court. The specific charges involve an assault on 6 May 2025, attempted grievous bodily harm on 8 May 2025, possession of an offensive weapon on 26 June 2025, and a second assault on an emergency worker on 28 October 2025.
