Chukwuebuka Enekwechi has made history by winning the men’s shot put title at the 2026 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow. Representing Team Nigeria, the 33-year-old athlete secured the top spot with a throw measuring 21.07 meters.
The competition was intense, as Enekwechi narrowly defeated New Zealand’s Tom Walsh, who earned silver with a distance of 21.03 meters. England’s Scott Lincoln finished in third place to take the bronze with a throw of 20.99 meters. This achievement marks the first time a Nigerian athlete has claimed the gold medal in this event at the Commonwealth Games.
Enekwechi previously took home a silver medal at the 2018 Gold Coast Games and placed fourth at the 2022 Birmingham event. This victory contributes to Team Nigeria’s successful campaign, bringing their total gold medal count to eight in Glasgow.
