The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in Jigawa announced it has successfully rescued and returned 258 victims to their families while documenting 78 trafficking cases over the past three years. State Commander Abdulkadir Turajo shared these figures in Dutse while marking the 2026 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.
Between January 2025 and July 2026, the International Organization for Migration helped return 512 Jigawa natives from abroad. During this timeframe, the local command obtained two convictions, including one involving a foreign citizen. To prevent future incidents, the agency has performed 150 awareness programs across all 27 local government areas, with specific focus on high-risk zones like Kazaure and Roni.
Commander Turajo issued a stern warning to traffickers, stating that the agency is fully prepared to prosecute anyone using the state for illegal movement. He encouraged citizens to report suspicious behavior through the NAPTIP headquarters in Dutse, the agency’s hotline, or the iReporter mobile application. The commander also recognized Governor Umar Namadi and various security partners for their ongoing cooperation.
This year’s observance theme, Trapped Behind The Scam, focuses on how traffickers utilize fraudulent job postings and cyber-enabled schemes to deceive vulnerable individuals.
