A coordinated security operation involving the Department of State Services (DSS), Kwara State Forest Guards, local hunters, and vigilantes has resulted in the deaths of three suspected kidnappers and the rescue of nine hostages. The confrontation occurred in the Ekiti Local Government Area, specifically targeting the Obbo Aiyegunle, Ejiu Ora, and Osi regions near the border of Ekiti and Kwara states.
Prince Dada Sunday, the chief press secretary for the Ekiti LGA chairman, verified the successful mission on Wednesday, noting that actionable intelligence guided the security personnel. The group of over ten gunmen had gathered victims from various locations prior to the tactical strike. During the incident, one captive suffered a severe machete wound to the head while attempting to fight back.
Umaru Muazu, a local farmer, described how the gunmen ambushed him and his son, seizing their belongings before forcing them into the wilderness. Another rescued individual, Ibrahim Danga, confirmed they were held against their will until the intervention of the security team. Owolabi Adebayo, representing the Forest Guards, emphasized that the unit remains determined but requires additional supplies such as body armour, communication devices, and night vision tools to enhance their efficacy against armed criminal groups.
