Adams Oshiomhole, the senator for Edo North, has publicly challenged Minister of Works Dave Umahi regarding his approach to road development. Oshiomhole argues that the minister focuses too heavily on initiating new construction projects while ignoring critical maintenance needs for existing, dilapidated infrastructure.
During Wednesday’s Senate session, Oshiomhole pointed out the severe lack of reliable transit routes between Edo and Delta states. He characterized the minister’s recent budget decisions as unfair and lacking a national scope. Specifically, he noted that the government recently approved twenty new road projects despite the poor state of existing major routes connecting cities like Benin, Warri, Asaba, Auchi, and Okene.
Oshiomhole claimed that previous Senate attempts to address these infrastructure gaps were ignored by the minister. He credited President Tinubu’s initiative with using tax credits to salvage specific road sections, as the formal national budget has failed to include these critical repairs over the last three years. The senator concluded his remarks by requesting that the Senate leadership press the minister to adopt a more equitable, country-wide strategy for infrastructure funding.
