The Nigeria Customs Service has officially introduced the 2026 Fiscal Policy Measures and Tariff Amendments, following approval from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Customs spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada confirmed the update in a statement released on Wednesday.
These adjustments are designed to boost local industrial growth, encourage legal trade, and streamline national fiscal policy management. The new framework updates several key areas, including the Import Adjustment Tax list, the ECOWAS Common External Tariff (2022–2027) national and import lists, and the list of items subject to excise duty. Additionally, the government has introduced a Green Tax on motor vehicles with engines of 2,000cc or larger, along with updates to the export prohibition list.
Stakeholders, such as manufacturers, importers, and customs agents, are urged to review these regulatory shifts to maintain compliance in their business operations. The agency emphasized that achieving a more competitive economy depends on the cooperation of all participants within the trade sector.
