Ahead of their promotion back to the Championship, Cardiff City have finalized an improved deal for manager Brian Barry-Murphy. Since taking the helm last summer, the 48-year-old coach successfully guided the team to the second tier during his inaugural campaign. Despite previous interest from Burnley, he has committed to a new three-year contract that extends his tenure. Additionally, key staff members Lee Riley and Kevin Gibbins have secured extensions through 2029.
Owner Vincent Tan expressed his satisfaction with the decision, citing Barry-Murphy’s ability to foster success with a young squad. The manager, who spent time in Malaysia with Tan earlier this summer, emphasized the strong support he has received from club leadership. Barry-Murphy’s first year was notably successful, achieving a 58.7% win rate and leading the league in scoring with 90 goals.
Beyond the results, the manager has earned recognition for his commitment to developing young talent, including players like Dylan Lawlor and Isaak Davies. Reflecting on the extension, Barry-Murphy credited the supporters for the rapid progress made over the past year. The club is now shifting focus to upcoming fixtures, including a pre-season match against AS Roma and their opening Championship clash with Wrexham on August 17.
