Chelsea Transfer News: Welbeck Arrival Triggers Potential Striker Departures

Danny Welbeck’s transfer to Chelsea will likely lead to the departure of several current strikers, as manager Xabi Alonso looks to streamline his attacking roster.

Danny Welbeck is poised to join Chelsea this summer, a move that may result in as many as three current forwards exiting the club. The 35-year-old, arriving from Brighton, is slated for medical evaluations later this week. Xabi Alonso, the newly appointed manager, specifically requested Welbeck to provide veteran leadership to the squad.

Coming off a season where he netted 13 league goals, Welbeck is expected to commit to a deal running through 2028 at Stamford Bridge. Reports from the Daily Mail indicate that this signing will likely force a reduction in the club’s existing attacking ranks. Chelsea currently holds a roster featuring Liam Delap, Emmanuel Emegha, Nicolas Jackson, Marc Guiu, and Joao Pedro. While Pedro is officially off the market, the club will likely look to sell or loan out at least two or three of the remaining players to balance the team.
