Oshoala Expresses Regret After Super Falcons’ Defeat to Malawi

Asisat Oshoala has apologized to Nigerian fans following the Super Falcons’ unexpected 3-2 defeat against Malawi in their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations opening match.

Asisat Oshoala has issued an apology to the Nigerian public after the Super Falcons suffered a surprising loss to Malawi. As reported by the DAILY POST, the defending champions were defeated 3-2 by the Scorchers during their first match of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday.

Malawi secured their victory with two goals from Tembi Chawinga and one from Tabitha Chawinga. Nigeria managed to get on the scoreboard through team captain Rasheedat Ajibade and Uchenna Kanu, who entered the match as a substitute. Following the final whistle, Oshoala spoke with the press to express her remorse for the team’s performance.

The forward acknowledged that the loss serves as a necessary reminder for the squad to improve. She emphasized that competition is intensifying as other nations work hard to challenge for the title. Oshoala stated that the team remains focused on proper preparation for their upcoming Group C match against Zambia, which is scheduled for Saturday night.
