The Abia State administration recently organized the 2026 First School Leaving Certificate examination for 34 prisoners located in Umuahia and Aba. Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information, announced the news on Tuesday following a meeting of the State Executive Council led by Governor Alex Otti.
According to Kanu, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and the state’s Agency for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education managed the process to allow these adults to take the test. He explained that this effort aligns with the government’s commitment to ensuring educational opportunities are available to all residents, even those in custody.
Specifically, 15 participants originated from the Umuahia facility, while 19 came from the Aba center. Additionally, Kanu noted that Governor Otti has authorized urgent measures to address erosion issues at the Amamba-Uzuakoli and Ipupe-Ubakala locations.
