Mandhana leads Super Giants to victory over Sunrisers

Smriti Mandhana’s unbeaten 88 steered Manchester Super Giants to a narrow win over Sunrisers Leeds, keeping their undefeated run in The Hundred alive.

Smriti Mandhana delivered a brilliant, undefeated 88 from 50 balls, securing a four-wicket triumph for the Manchester Super Giants against Sunrisers Leeds. This result maintains the Super Giants’ perfect record in The Hundred competition.

This performance marked Mandhana’s highest score in the tournament, highlighted by seven fours and four sixes. Her calm presence at Headingley allowed her to navigate the 143-run chase effectively, even as teammates struggled to maintain partnerships. Captain Meg Lanning, with 24 runs, was the only other contributor to reach double digits.

With 16 runs required from the final 10 balls, Mandhana accelerated the scoring. She hit two consecutive sixes off Jess Jonassen before concluding the match with another maximum against Annabel Sutherland. Earlier, Sutherland had led the Sunrisers’ score of 142-4 with a steady 35 off 24 deliveries, supported by contributions from Bryony Smith, Phoebe Litchfield, and Dani Gibson.

Grace Ballinger provided the most economical bowling effort for the Super Giants, while Sophie Ecclestone and Ryana MacDonald-Gay faced challenges during their spells. The Hundred continues on Wednesday with scheduled matches in Cardiff and London.
