The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has spoken out against the tragic murder of an HND II Marketing student at D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic in Itori, Ogun State. The student was killed during an armed robbery in the Eruku area of Ewekoro, which occurred shortly before her final exams.
The violent encounter left three other students wounded, including one requiring emergency care at the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta due to a gunshot injury. Following the attack, students staged a protest that obstructed the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
Dr. Goke Rafiu, the polytechnic rector, confirmed that approximately 15 residential buildings housing students were raided. In response, school management paused all examinations to allow time for mourning and recovery, with a new schedule pending. The institution’s leadership and the Governing Council have met with police to evaluate the safety risks.
Student union leadership and NANS have urged the Ogun State Government to bolster security measures around campuses. NANS officials have encouraged students to seek safer housing until the police conduct a full investigation and stabilize the area. The Ogun State Police Command is actively monitoring the situation and stated that the student demonstrations remained peaceful.
