The Sokoto State Police Command successfully intervened in a bandit attack in Rabah Local Government Area, leading to the rescue of 32 kidnapped individuals. The operation took place on Monday at Maikujera Village, near the Zamfara State border, after authorities received reports of an armed gang abducting residents and stealing livestock.
Upon receiving a distress call at 8:30 a.m., the local police leadership coordinated with the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Violent Crime Reaction Unit, and the Army to block the attackers’ escape routes. A intense firefight ensued, forcing the gunmen to abandon their captives and flee into the forest.
While all 32 hostages—consisting of six men and 26 women and children—were recovered safely, police noted that four residents lost their lives during the initial raid before security teams arrived. The rescued victims are currently receiving medical and psychological support.
Sokoto State Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, extended his condolences to the affected families. He pledged that the police would continue aggressive operations to capture the perpetrators and urged the public to keep reporting suspicious activities to assist in maintaining regional security.
