Chawinga Urges Malawi to Stay Confident Ahead of WAFCON Debut Against Nigeria

Malawi captain Tabitha Chawinga insists her team must remain fearless as they prepare to face the reigning champions, the Nigerian Super Falcons, in their first-ever WAFCON match.

Malawi team captain Tabitha Chawinga has urged her teammates to maintain courage as they prepare to challenge the Nigerian Super Falcons. As reported by DAILY POST, Lovemore Fazili’s squad is set to face the reigning champions in their historic inaugural Women’s Africa Cup of Nations match.

The Group C fixture is scheduled for 9 p.m. Nigeria time at Al Madina Stadium in Rabat. While Nigeria enters the match as the heavy favorite due to their record of 10 championship titles, Chawinga emphasized that her team must not be intimidated. Alongside her sister Themwa, Tabitha will lead the offensive effort against the team coached by Justine Madugu.

Reflecting on the milestone, Chawinga stated that playing in the WAFCON has been a long-held ambition. She acknowledged Nigeria’s status as a formidable footballing nation but stressed that the Scorchers must concentrate on their own performance and play without fearing their opponents.
