Foreign Affairs Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu has signaled Nigeria’s renewed dedication to fostering peace, security, and sustainable growth throughout Africa. Speaking during an African Union Executive Council meeting, she engaged with AU Commissioner Bankole Adeoye to discuss ongoing cooperation. Odumegwu-Ojukwu praised Adeoye for his efforts in securing significant financial assistance for the Multinational Joint Task Force.
The Minister emphasized that African nations must prioritize self-reliance and robust institutions over external aid. She expressed that the continent is moving toward greater ownership of its development path. Commissioner Adeoye acknowledged Nigeria’s consistent leadership within the AU Peace and Security Council for over two decades, noting the country’s critical influence on regional stability.
Looking ahead, the two leaders reviewed the security challenges currently facing the Sahel, Sudan, and other regions. They also explored the use of artificial intelligence to improve peace operations and conflict prevention. The conversation concluded with a shared vision to expand diplomatic training opportunities for young African professionals and to elevate Nigeria’s influence in global leadership positions.
