Dr. Boniface Gundiri, the Executive Secretary of the Adamawa State Agency for the Control of AIDS (ADSACA), announced a decrease in HIV prevalence in the state, which has fallen from 2.5 percent in 2014 to 1.1 percent.

He shared this update during an event to commemorate this year’s World AIDS Day.

“Today, we celebrate the drop in HIV prevalence in Adamawa State from 2.5 percent in 2014 to i.1 percent,” the ADSACA executive secretary said.

“The reduction of HIV prevalence in the state is a testament to impactful intervention against HIV/AIDS by implementing partners with support from the state Ministry of Health.”

Dr. Gundiri urged both the executive and legislative branches of the state government to pass laws that would protect the rights of people living with HIV, thereby improving access to care.

In her remarks, the state Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, highlighted the government’s procurement of 36,000 HIV/Syphilis test kits, along with 3,600 test kits each for Hepatitis B and C, to ensure comprehensive testing for HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis.

She emphasized the importance of sustaining efforts to combat HIV/AIDS nationwide in line with the United Nations’ goal to end HIV by 2030.
