The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has issued a stern warning regarding potential delays in executing the recent agreement reached with the federal government. During their 55th National Executive Council meeting at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, the union demanded the immediate formation of an Implementation Monitoring Committee to oversee adherence to the deal and prevent breaches.
SSANU leadership emphasized that the new pay structure applies strictly to constitutionally recognized members who have met the requirements of registration and payment of dues. The union instructed its local branches to maintain precise member records and report any instances of victimization or exclusion. Furthermore, the association expressed gratitude to the National Universities Commission and the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission for their roles in circulating the agreement and the associated implementation guidance.
The council explicitly called on federal and state authorities to expedite funding to cover outstanding salary arrears. While acknowledging vice-chancellors who have already disbursed the approved pay increases, the union criticized institutions failing to meet these obligations. The communique, signed by President Mohammed Ibrahim, underscored the significance of the June 2026 agreement, which includes a 35 percent rise in emoluments and improved career development prospects. The union reaffirmed its dedication to industrial peace and urged government bodies to prioritize the full, non-discriminatory application of the terms.
