The Roses quickly dismissed the memory of their earlier 66-47 loss to the Australians by establishing an early 18-9 lead in the opening quarter.
England maintained a steady pace throughout the match, ultimately overwhelming Malawi in the final quarter by outscoring them 18 to five. Goal shooter Eleanor Cardwell was pivotal after entering the game in the second half, maintaining a perfect record by successfully converting all 21 of her shooting attempts.
Currently, the Roses sit third in Pool A, trailing both South Africa and Australia. The team is scheduled to play Tonga on Wednesday, followed by a crucial showdown against South Africa on Thursday to determine who advances to the semi-finals. Despite aiming to reclaim the gold medal they earned in 2018, England’s path has been complicated by the resignation of former head coach Jess Thirlby in March. Consequently, interim coach Anna Stembridge is leading a squad where 10 of the 12 players are making their Commonwealth Games debuts due to injuries impacting key veterans Helen Housby and Natalie Metcalf.
