A multi-storey student hostel known as Elite Five Star Lodge has collapsed in Oko, located in the Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State. The facility, which sits near the Tonimas Filling Station behind the Federal Polytechnic, has left an unknown number of people trapped beneath the wreckage.
Emergency teams, including the Anambra State Police Command, state fire services, and the State Emergency Management Agency, are currently conducting search and rescue missions. While the precise cause of the structural failure remains unknown, authorities have successfully recovered several survivors who were rushed to a local hospital for urgent medical care. Some fatalities have also been confirmed, though officials have not yet released an official death toll.
Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed that security personnel arrived shortly after the incident occurred on the night of Sunday, July 26, 2026. The police have cordoned off the site to ensure safety and facilitate the rescue process. Local authorities have appealed to the public to stay clear of the area and avoid circulating unverified reports while responders continue their work.
