The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported that security agents successfully stopped an attempted robbery at the 330/132kV transmission facility in Bauchi. By intervening, the guards protected vital electrical infrastructure from being vandalized.
According to an official notice, the event took place on the evening of Friday, July 24, at approximately 9:34 p.m. Security staff on patrol discovered individuals attempting to dismantle components of a transmission tower. Upon being noticed, the intruders abandoned their efforts and escaped.
Ndidi Mbah, the TCN General Manager for Public Affairs, noted that a follow-up sweep of the site resulted in the seizure of 12 tower angle irons, a large metal scale, and a white pickup truck. These items are now under the custody of the Railway Division Police Station in Bauchi for an ongoing investigation. Fortunately, the facility sustained no damage, no equipment went missing, and nobody was hurt.
TCN praised the quick thinking and alertness of the security team. Furthermore, the company has called on local residents to stay watchful and alert authorities or TCN offices if they notice any unusual activity near power installations to help ensure the security of the national grid.
