Jackson Koivun achieved his first PGA Tour victory on Sunday, outperforming top-ranked Scottie Scheffler at the 3M Open. Just two months removed from leading Auburn to a college championship title, the 21-year-old rookie showcased remarkable composure in only his third professional event.
Koivun established a strong position with a 10-under 61 on Saturday, granting him a three-stroke advantage heading into the final round at TPC Twin Cities. Although his lead grew to five strokes, Scheffler mounted a significant charge on the back nine, recording five birdies over the final holes to finish with an eight-under 63.
Despite hearing the crowd rally for the world number one, Koivun remained steady. He secured a crucial birdie on the 16th hole and finished with a five-under 66, securing a three-shot victory with a total score of 25 under par. Denny McCarthy, Brian Harman, Chandler Phillips, and Hideki Matsuyama finished in a tie for third, five shots off the pace.
