Marvel Studios has officially confirmed that Ryan Gosling is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe to portray the iconic lead in a new Ghost Rider movie. The announcement took place at San Diego Comic-Con, where a visibly excited Gosling shared that portraying the character has been a long-standing aspiration for him.
Scheduled for a 2028 release, this production serves as the third cinematic installment featuring the motorcycle-bound anti-hero. It succeeds the original 2007 Ghost Rider and the 2011 sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, both of which starred Nicolas Cage. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige teased the news before the actor surprised attendees by appearing on stage.
The film is set to be directed by Shawn Levy, a collaborator of Gosling who recently helmed Deadpool & Wolverine. The two have been developing their creative vision for the project during their time working together on other films. The narrative follows the story of stunt performer Johnny Blaze, who gains supernatural abilities after striking a bargain with the entity Mephisto to protect his father.
