A fatal traffic incident occurred on the A38 in Derby late Saturday evening when a red Hyundai exited the roadway and struck trees. The collision happened between the A50 Toyota Island and the A516 junction around 11:00 PM BST.
Derbyshire Police confirmed that three occupants of the vehicle—two women aged 18 and 30, along with a 36-year-old man—were pronounced dead at the site. A baby girl involved in the crash was transported to a medical facility but passed away shortly thereafter. All victims were residents of Leeds.
The 33-year-old male driver of the vehicle sustained serious injuries and is currently hospitalized. Authorities have arrested him on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Support is being provided to the families of the victims by specialist officers.
Following the accident, the dual carriageway experienced a closure of several hours to allow emergency crews to operate; however, the road has since been reopened. Law enforcement officials are requesting that anyone with information or dashcam recordings of the event reach out to assist with the ongoing investigation.
