73-Year-Old Woman Mauled to Death by Her Own Pit Bull in Massachusetts Home
A 73-year-old woman from Massachusetts, Jeriline Brady-McGinnis, was tragically mauled to death by her own pit bull on Monday evening, Nov. 18, in Roxbury. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. inside the couple’s home.
Her husband, who tried to intervene, was also injured, along with two Boston police officers who responded to the scene.
All four individuals were rushed to the hospital, but despite efforts to save her, Brady-McGinnis died during surgery, according to her friend, Jean McGuire.
“She got attacked some way and they ripped her arm,” McGuire, 93, said.
Authorities confirmed that the dog was shot during the incident and was later put down on Tuesday, Nov. 19, according to Boston Animal Control.
The two police officers and Brady-McGinnis’ husband sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the incident.
“She’s very close to her animals, almost like children, I think,” McGuire, who is a civil rights pioneer, said. “She took good care of them. She walked them every day.”
Neighbors expressed concerns about the four dogs owned by Brady-McGinnis, with McGuire mentioning that the couple had too many pets in their home.
The police department’s homicide unit is investigating the incident due to the severity of the injuries, according to reports.
Brady-McGinnis’ family remembered her as a person with a “heart of gold.”
“Our mother was a loving and caring mother. She put her children first … The heart and soul of our family is gone,” her three children said, according to WBZ News.
Three other dogs were removed from the home following the incident.
