Wike Approves N1.1 Billion Compensation for Demolished Buildings on Kuje-Airport Road Project

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has approved a sum of N1.1 billion as compensation for property owners affected by the ongoing construction of the Airport Road to Kuje expressway.

Wike made the announcement in Abuja on Tuesday following an inspection of the structures marked for demolition, which include approximately 13 buildings located along the road corridor.

The minister emphasized that the approval of the funds is aimed at accelerating the delivery of the project, a six-lane dual carriage expressway designed to enhance connectivity between Airport Road and Kuje.

He said, “I have come here to see for myself the report on the valuation of what I was supposed to pay. When I got the files for approval, I said, look, it would be proper for me to see for myself the kind of structures for which I was going to pay. So, I am happy with what I have seen. I will immediately approve the amount so that the Federal Capital Development Authority can start paying the compensation. I am going to make the N1.1 billion available so that the contractor will not find any excuse to delay the project.’’

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, also inspected ongoing projects, including the construction of the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal and its feeder road. He expressed satisfaction with the progress being made on both projects.

Wike confirmed that the Court of Appeal complex is on track for completion and handover by September 2025.

Additionally, he announced that the feeder road, Asuquo Okon Road (Road CN8), connecting Obafemi Awolowo Way (Arterial Road N5) to Olusegun Obasanjo Way (Arterial Road N1), is expected to be completed by May 2025.

He stated that the project also encompasses the adjoining roads within the sector center of the Daki Biyu District.

The minister said, “I am very impressed with what we saw this afternoon. It is progressing as expected. By the grace of God, we believe that in September 2025 the contractor will have handed over the structure. I also inspected the construction of the road leading to that edifice and the contractor is also doing everything possible to see that he beat the May 2025 timeline
