British performer David Jonsson has been selected to star as the protagonist in the upcoming Marvel Studios production, Black Panther III. The announcement occurred during Marvel’s Comic-Con event this past Saturday, with the film set to premiere on December 15, 2028.
Known for his roles in the HBO drama Industry and the feature film The Long Walk, Jonsson will play the son of T’Challa, the character previously portrayed by Chadwick Boseman. Boseman achieved international recognition for his performance in the 2018 hit Black Panther prior to his passing in 2020 at age 43.
Jonsson shared his appreciation for joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the crowd, stating that he feels privileged to be part of the franchise and prefers to let his performance speak for itself. Ryan Coogler, the director behind the first two entries, is returning to lead this third chapter.
According to Coogler, the story will focus on T’Challa’s son as he matures and embraces the mantle of Wakanda’s defender. The original 2018 film was a major financial success, earning $1.3 billion at the global box office with an ensemble cast that included Michael B. Jordan, Angela Bassett, and Lupita Nyong’o.
