Nigeria’s representative, Chidimma Adetshina, achieved remarkable success by finishing as the first runner-up at the 73rd Miss Universe Competition, held in Mexico.

The exciting finale, which took place at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City early Sunday morning, culminated in a fierce face-off between Adetshina and Denmark, with both contestants poised to claim the coveted crown.

The event, widely regarded as one of the most thrilling in recent years, showcased the talents, intelligence, and elegance of women from across the world.

In a post via Instagram, the organisers said, “The final two! Nigeria and Denmark, two incredible women, one unforgettable moment.”

Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, ultimately claimed the crown, succeeding Miss Universe 2023, Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua.

Despite not winning the title, Chidimma Adetshina’s exceptional performance and poise earned her widespread admiration from both the judges and the audience.

In a related development, Adetshina’s earlier decision to withdraw from the Miss South Africa 2024 contest, where she had reached the final stage, stirred controversy a few months ago.

Chidimma Adetshina’s decision to withdraw from the Miss South Africa 2024 contest stemmed from concerns raised by some South Africans questioning her nationality. However, she continued her journey in pageantry and represented Taraba State, ultimately winning the title of Miss Universe Nigeria.

Her achievement follows a proud history of Nigerian success in global pageants, including Agbani Darego’s historic win in 2001, when she became the first Black African to be crowned Miss World at just 18 years old.

Agbani’s victory was a defining moment for Nigeria and the continent, as her slender beauty and graceful demeanor inspired many young women, and her triumph remains a celebrated milestone in African pageantry history.
