The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully confiscated illicit drugs valued at more than N10 billion across various national operations. In addition to the narcotics, officers recovered 401 rounds of military-grade ammunition hidden inside palm oil containers.
Femi Babafemi, the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, detailed the arrests in a Sunday press release. Among those apprehended was Onuigbo Ndubisi Chinedu, a 55-year-old trader from Balogun Market. He was detained for his alleged role in exporting 3.30kg of cocaine hidden within food packaging destined for the United Kingdom. Following investigations involving three cargo agents, authorities tracked the shipment back to Okakpu and eventually identified Chinedu as the primary organizer.
Multiple other successful interceptions occurred. In Lagos, entrepreneur Emmanuella Chukwu-Edo was arrested after 2.80kg of synthetic cannabis arrived from the United States. Furthermore, agents seized over 2.24 million pills of Tapentadol worth N2.2 billion at the airport, while a separate raid at Apapa Seaport uncovered 2,388.5kg of Canadian Loud hidden inside vehicles, carrying a market value of over N7.1 billion.
Regarding the munitions, operatives in Katsina State apprehended Mustapha Sani with 323 rounds of live ammunition. Simultaneously, along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, Abubakar Amadu was found carrying 73 rounds of ammunition tucked into palm oil canisters. Both individuals were transferred to the relevant security branches for further action.
The agency also executed raids in Edo State, seizing over 1,300kg of cannabis products. Beyond enforcement, the NDLEA continues its nationwide awareness initiatives under the War Against Drug Abuse program. Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.) praised the various commands for their dedication and encouraged continued vigilance in both drug prevention and control efforts.
