The Benue State Ministry of Health and Human Services has officially refuted claims suggesting an Mpox outbreak within the region. Dr. Paul Ogwuche, the Commissioner for Health, addressed the matter in a public statement released on Saturday.
Reports had circulated on social media concerning a potential case in the Tyokula Achihi area of Konshisha Local Government. Upon learning of these rumors, the ministry immediately mobilized its surveillance teams. Dr. Ogwuche noted that the Director of Public Health and the State Epidemiologist dispatched a notification officer to the site to conduct a thorough investigation and collect clinical samples for testing.
Currently, there is no laboratory-confirmed Mpox case in Benue. The commissioner reminded the public that symptoms such as fever and rashes are common to various illnesses and require formal diagnostic testing. The state continues to monitor all 23 local government areas in partnership with the NCDC, the Federal Ministry of Health, and the World Health Organization.
Authorities have urged citizens to stay calm and avoid spreading unverified news. Individuals experiencing suspicious symptoms are advised to seek medical evaluation at the nearest clinic rather than panicking. The ministry remains prepared to respond appropriately if any confirmed cases arise.
