Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, traveled to Sokoto on Saturday for a significant meeting with the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III. During the encounter at the Sultan’s palace, she lauded the monarch as a vital figure in maintaining national cohesion, highlighting his ongoing prayers and guidance as essential support for the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Upon arriving at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, the First Lady was received by Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu and other high-ranking officials. Senator Tinubu explained that the visit served as a personal expression of gratitude for the Sultan’s consistent encouragement since her husband took office. She emphasized that the Sultan is a paragon of peace and a leader who bridges gaps between Nigeria’s various ethnic and religious groups.
Reflecting on their history, the First Lady noted their past interactions, including his attendance at her traditional title ceremony in Ile-Ife. She prayed for the Sultan’s continued health and wisdom. In his remarks, Governor Aliyu praised the First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative, noting its positive impact on vulnerable citizens through education and healthcare support.
The Sultan, in response, warmly described the visit as a homecoming. He noted that he has maintained a close relationship with the President and the First Lady for nearly twenty years. Reaffirming the importance of traditional institutions, the monarch expressed his commitment to working with the government to promote stability, peace, and progress throughout the nation.
