The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has officially concluded its five-week demonstration in Delhi after Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stepped down from his post. Supporters gathered at Jantar Mantar to mark what they view as a significant victory for democratic expression.
Although the CJP is not a formal political organization, the satirical online campaign has become a major outlet for youth frustration regarding job prospects and educational standards. Led by political strategist Abhijeet Dipke, the movement gained international attention through its use of a cockroach mascot, which supporters transformed into a symbol of resilience. The pressure on the government intensified following a harsh police response to a march toward parliament earlier this week, which resulted in numerous injuries.
In his resignation statement shared on X, Pradhan expressed that his decision was intended to protect the future of Indian students and maintain national unity. While the resignation represents a rare instance of government concession under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, activists suggest the movement will persist. Dipke indicated that the CJP will continue to advocate for compensation for families affected by examination cancellations and demand accountability for the police conduct witnessed during the protests.
