Nigerian filmmaker Iyabo Ojo has publicly accused a Ghanaian television outlet of illegally airing her latest project shortly after its debut. The incident occurred less than a day after she premiered the concluding installment of her production titled ‘The Memory of You’.
Reports confirm the movie was launched on Friday evening at 5 p.m., while NETV broadcast the content without securing any licensing or providing compensation. Taking to social media on Saturday, Ojo labeled the act as theft, insisting that channels should not profit from the labor of creators without authorization.
The actress has formally requested that Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama, alongside the National Film Authority and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, take immediate action. She emphasized that the Copyright Act of 2005 exists to shield intellectual property, urging officials to follow through on their recent threats to suspend stations found guilty of piracy. This incident follows a recent announcement by the Ghana National Film Authority regarding their intent to prosecute broadcasters that air Nigerian movies without legal consent.
