Law enforcement authorities in Akwa Ibom State have initiated an inquiry into the death of Pastor Etetim Udo, who allegedly died by suicide in the Oron local government area. The pastor served as the founder of Power in the Word of God for the World Ministries.
According to DSP Timfon John, the state police spokesperson, the department was alerted to the situation on the morning of July 23, 2026. A local resident reported seeing a commotion at the church facility, which was later confirmed by the victim’s children as the site of the incident.
Police teams dispatched to the church found the pastor’s body suspended by a makeshift rope fashioned from a mosquito net. Investigators have collected physical evidence for forensic analysis. Medical personnel at a local hospital officially pronounced the pastor dead, and his body is currently held in a mortuary awaiting an autopsy.
Commissioner of Police Baba Mohammed Azare has promised a rigorous and neutral investigation. He has also requested that the public refrain from circulating rumors and instead provide any factual information that might assist the authorities.
