Lando Norris claimed his first grand prix pole of the year, narrowly edging out Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton by just 0.012 seconds during the final qualifying lap. Although Hamilton held the lead after the opening runs, neither he nor Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc could lower their times when it mattered most.
The session concluded in dramatic fashion after Max Verstappen spun his Red Bull at the final corner. The incident forced George Russell and Kimi Antonelli to decelerate, impacting their final qualifying results. Norris, however, successfully completed his lap to secure the top spot.
Hamilton now faces scrutiny over a potential impeding violation involving Oscar Piastri at Turn One. Elsewhere, Fernando Alonso provided a boost for Aston Martin, advancing out of the first qualifying session for the first time this year. While starting 16th, the veteran driver expressed renewed optimism regarding the team’s trajectory and the future leadership of Adrian Newey.
