Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has voiced his belief that Peter Obi will uphold his vow to step down after one term should he win the 2027 presidency. Speaking on News Central’s 60 Minutes with Mr. Kay, Kwankwaso emphasized that Obi’s public pledge is a matter of integrity.
Kwankwaso noted that the coalition’s internal agreements are rooted in mutual trust. He argued that it is only fair for the southern region to conclude an eight-year tenure, suggesting that a person of character would not walk back on such a high-profile commitment. The former governor of Kano State stressed that the NDC operates under a collaborative framework rather than individual interest.
The coalition has established a comprehensive governance roadmap that transcends specific candidates. Whether the leader comes from the Obidient movement or the Kwankwasiyya faction, the party intends to follow its established short and long-term objectives. Kwankwaso concluded that the alliance remains dedicated to ensuring the continuity of these policies regardless of future leadership transitions.
