Prince Jude Osumuo, the President-General of Nzuko Ora Nnewi, has rejected claims that the Nnewi Ichi quarter intends to leave the town’s central union. He clarified that the four quarters of Nnewi—Umudim, Uruagu, Nnewi Ichi, and Otolo—operate under a rotation system for elective roles, with each term lasting four years.
Osumuo noted that tension arose from varying interpretations of local government chairmanship tenures, particularly after the Anambra State House of Assembly legislated a two-year initial term. While some individuals from Nnewi Ichi believe it is currently their turn to hold the mayoralty, the leadership maintains that the Umudim quarter is still completing its rotation.
The President-General dismissed a document circulating online that suggested a different zoning structure, labeling it an unapproved draft. He assured Nnewi Ichi that they would receive their turn once the current tenure concludes. Furthermore, Osumuo rejected rumors that Igwe Kenneth Orizu III would skip the Afia Olu Festival, confirming the monarch is fully engaged in festival planning. He also clarified that the local government mayor, Hon. Echezona Anazodo, is not responsible for these administrative disputes, and that the recent suspension of the union’s secretary was due to professional misconduct rather than the zoning disagreement.
