President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerian medical professionals living abroad to return home and apply their expertise to improve the nation’s healthcare sector as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda. This appeal was made during a meeting at the State House in Abuja with the Nigerian Diaspora Medical Associations Worldwide, accompanied by NIDCOM CEO Abike Dabiri-Erewa, amid the 2026 National Diaspora Day celebrations.
Highlighting the importance of national contribution, the President emphasized that Nigeria requires the skills and patriotic spirit of its citizens abroad to create a top-tier medical infrastructure. Tinubu drew from his own personal experience working internationally before returning home, asserting that there is no place like one’s own country.
The government’s strategy involves significant investments in medical training, research, and digital infrastructure to foster a better environment for healthcare delivery. President Tinubu specifically lauded the doctors for their recent volunteer medical outreaches across various Nigerian regions, which provided essential surgeries and consultations to thousands of citizens.
Abike Dabiri-Erewa stated that these professionals, who gained their foundational training in Nigeria, are eager to contribute to the national healthcare master plan. Minister of State for Health, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, noted that the ministry will establish this diaspora collaboration as an annual event, acknowledging the eagerness of those abroad to support the administration’s health goals.
