A 25-year-old law student has been charged with possessing explosives after gardaí stopped her vehicle on the N2 close to Carrickmacross on Wednesday. Isobella Perrie Sullivan, a resident of Clane in County Kildare, appeared at a special session of the Trim District Court on Friday.
Authorities stated that the stop was part of an operation aimed at disrupting dissident republican activities, as investigators suspected the vehicle was intended to cross into Northern Ireland. During the search, officers reportedly discovered a bomb containing a detonator, a timing unit, and suspected Semtex plastic explosives inside a bag in the backseat.
The Irish Defence Forces assessed the device and confirmed its viability. Perrie Sullivan’s legal representative noted that she resides with her father and is training to become a barrister. The judge granted bail contingent on a €15,000 independent surety. Additionally, she must observe a curfew, surrender her passport, report to a local garda station daily, and provide her contact information to authorities. She remains in custody pending a subsequent bail hearing scheduled for Monday.
