Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, has issued a formal warning to residents regarding the upcoming Oloolu festival. The traditional leader explicitly banned the recording of videos or taking of photographs featuring the Oloolu masquerade. This directive was communicated on Friday through a statement released by Chief Solomon Ayoade, the Chief Press Secretary to the monarch.
The Oloolu is recognized as the most significant masquerade in Ibadan’s history. The annual festival is scheduled to commence this coming Monday. Beyond the media restrictions, the Olubadan emphasized that cultural tradition strictly prohibits women from viewing the masquerade. He urged all residents to comply with these established customs to ensure the event proceeds without incident.
Furthermore, the Olubadan has called upon security forces to maintain public order throughout the duration of the festival. The royal statement serves as a reminder to the masquerade participants, followers, and the general public to refrain from any actions that might incite conflict or disrupt the peace during the celebration.
