Soldiers from the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, recently captured two individuals suspected of belonging to Boko Haram. The arrest occurred during a sweep of the Mandaragirau–Kurtum area within Borno State.
As reported by the Nigerian Army on X, the 162 Amphibious Battalion led the mission at 10:00 a.m. on July 22. They were supported by the Civilian Joint Task Force, local hunters, and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria. The security personnel utilized a gun truck and ten motorcycles to secure the Mandaragirau–Kurtum route and the Nguma region, aiming to eliminate insurgent strongholds.
The detainees were identified as 42-year-old Sidi Shagari and 25-year-old Abubakar Sadiq, also known as Buba. Both men are from the Birni region of Biu Local Government Area. Authorities confiscated three cutlasses, two mobile phones, a dagger, and N9,500 in cash during the encounter. The suspects and these items are now held at the Abogo Largema Cantonment for interrogation.
This initiative is a segment of the larger Operation Desert Sanity V, which seeks to weaken terrorist organizations across the North-East. While the regional security environment is currently stable, officials described the situation as volatile and noted that military units remain on high alert.
