Authorities within the Yobe State Police Command recently apprehended three individuals accused of vandalizing public property. Officers also secured stolen power lines and a tricycle during the operation, which is part of a broader effort to safeguard essential infrastructure.
SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the spokesperson for the state police, released a statement in Damaturu on Thursday confirming the details. On July 23, 2026, members of the Gashua Area Command utilized intelligence reports to detain 27-year-old Abubakar Idris, a local pot maker, who was caught with two significant bundles of suspected stolen cables.
Follow-up inquiries resulted in the detention of two additional suspects, 25-year-old Sumaila Suleiman and 26-year-old Ibrahim Ado. Police also seized a tricycle bearing the registration number 497 DPH, which was reportedly employed to move the contraband, alongside an unregistered motorcycle.
The command indicated that efforts to locate remaining members of the criminal group are underway. They are also working to verify the origin and rightful owners of the confiscated goods.
