During the first quarter of 2026, TikTok eliminated over 4.8 million videos in Nigeria. This move was part of an aggressive push to remove harmful content using enhanced artificial intelligence safety tools.
According to the company’s Q1 2026 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, the removed clips accounted for 0.6 percent of all videos uploaded by Nigerian users. Remarkably, 99.8 percent of these videos were caught by automated systems before any user reports were filed, and 92.8 percent were deleted within a single day. On a global scale, TikTok took down 184 million videos throughout the same period.
The company also cracked down on TikTok LIVE, suspending 120,000 sessions in Nigeria, which is an increase of 40,000 compared to the previous report. Worldwide, the platform suspended over 50.7 million live streams.
Addressing AI-related issues, TikTok removed more than 118,000 posts in Nigeria for violating policies on edited and AI-generated media. Globally, the platform deleted 86 million fake accounts to fight spam. TikTok has also joined the C2PA Steering Committee to help establish international standards for content authenticity.
To support users, TikTok plans to launch an in-app AI Literacy Hub in Nigeria soon. This follows a $4 million commitment to its AI Literacy Fund and collaborations with groups such as the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) and the Paradigm Initiative, which have already reached 200 million views.
