Jurgen Klopp is poised to become the manager of the German men’s national football team. The German Football Association, known as the DFB, has scheduled a press conference for Friday, leading to widespread speculation about the appointment.
The 59-year-old manager, highly regarded for his achievements at Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund, has been negotiating with the DFB to restore the team to its former dominance. An announcement is anticipated during a 11am session at the organization’s Frankfurt base, though the board has yet to finalize the agreement officially.
Reports indicate that Klopp, who previously served as the head of global soccer for Red Bull, will be released from his current obligations without a transfer fee. Instead, a donation of one million euros will be made to the Wings for Life spinal cord research charity. The contract is expected to extend through the 2030 World Cup.
This move follows the departure of Julian Nagelsmann, who was dismissed after Germany’s elimination by Paraguay in the World Cup round of 32. The national squad has struggled to maintain its status, facing multiple early tournament exits since their 2014 victory. Klopp, who previously led Liverpool to a Premier League title and Champions League success, is now tasked with reversing this downward trajectory following a break from coaching that began in 2024.
