Arsenal Sporting Director Edu Gaspar Set to Depart Club
Arsenal’s sporting director, Edu Gaspar, is poised to leave the club amid interest from Evangelos Marinakis’ group, which includes Nottingham Forest, Olympiacos, and Rio Ave.
Multiple reports on Monday indicate that the Brazilian, who has been instrumental in reshaping Arsenal’s transfer strategy and on-field identity since 2019, is likely to pursue a new opportunity within Marinakis’ multi-club network.
As plans are underway to expand to a fourth European club, Sky Sports News reported that the former Gunners midfielder has been key in signing players like Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice, while also facilitating the departures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mesut Ozil.
Since Edu joined the club, Arsenal has invested £867 million—only Chelsea and Manchester United have spent more during this time—and they have won the FA Cup while finishing as runners-up in the last two Premier League seasons.
The 46-year-old Brazilian, who has been a key figure at Arsenal in recent years, is set to embark on a significant new challenge within Marinakis’ multi-club ownership structure.
Edu’s departure indicates a major shift in Arsenal’s transfer department.
Edu’s decision to leave the Emirates Stadium was made by him. While the details are not fully known, recent changes in the roles of senior staff at the club are thought to have played a part in his decision.
Meanwhile, further details about the situation are anticipated within the next 24 hours.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is expected to discuss Edu’s situation during his pre-match press conference on Tuesday, ahead of their Champions League match against AC Milan at the San Siro.
