The Henley Passport Index has placed Nigeria in 90th position globally, reflecting a minor decline in its international standing. Passport holders from the country currently enjoy visa-free entry to 44 nations. This update, published by Henley & Partners, evaluates 199 different passports using International Air Transport Association statistics.
Compared to the April 2026 data, Nigeria has shifted down one spot from 89th place. While its access score remains steady at 44 destinations, the nation now shares its ranking with Turkmenistan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Among African neighbors, South Africa leads at 49th place, followed by Botswana, Ghana, and Kenya.
On a global scale, Singapore continues to lead the index with the most powerful passport, granting access to 192 locations. Japan holds the second position, while South Korea and the United Arab Emirates share third place. Conversely, Afghanistan remains at the bottom of the list, providing visa-free access to only 22 destinations. The current standings follow previous fluctuations in Nigeria’s mobility score, which saw the loss of access to several African countries offset by gains in the Pacific region.
