Omoyele Sowore, the 2027 presidential candidate for the African Action Congress, stated on Wednesday that the Department of State Services exists to support the public rather than private entities or individuals. He shared this view with reporters following his appearance at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Earlier that day, Justice Mohammed Garuba Umar denied Sowore’s attempt to present uncertified evidence during his trial, which involves claims of defamation against President Bola Tinubu. Addressing the court ruling, Sowore remarked that the DSS belongs to the Nigerian citizens and should not function as a private security firm for any individual.
Sowore emphasized that despite acting as a guard for the president, the agency needs to recognize its primary responsibility. He stated that it is necessary to remind these institutions that the public’s current welfare is paramount and that citizens will continue to pursue their freedom and future security.
