Isabel Rose, a 26-year-old from Hackney, London, received a six-year prison sentence in Hong Kong after a court convicted her of blackmail and perverting the course of justice. Prosecutors proved that she fabricated rape allegations against a British banker to extort £100,000.
Rose traveled to Hong Kong in January 2024 to visit the man, whom she had met in Thailand previously. Following an encounter at the man’s apartment on February 1, she initially messaged him with ambiguous comments before later claiming he had violated her. Evidence presented in court included text exchanges where Rose pressured the man for significant financial payments, despite the banker claiming he lacked the funds to meet her demands.
After Rose reported the incident to the police, the man was arrested but ultimately released without charge. Authorities then turned their investigation toward Rose. During the trial, she maintained her innocence, but Judge Adriana Tse rejected her claims. In her sentencing remarks, Judge Tse described the offense as cruel and wicked, noting that Rose exploited the man’s kindness and romantic interest to execute a vengeful scheme.
