Falz clarifies his stance on staying neutral in Nigerian politics

Rapper and activist Falz explains why he refuses to endorse politicians, focusing instead on encouraging civic participation and transparent elections.

Nigerian musician and activist Folarin Falana, widely known as Falz, has clarified that he has never publicly backed any political figure or party. He emphasizes that his public engagement is dedicated to promoting voter turnout rather than supporting specific candidates.

Falz stated that his goal is to foster a fair democratic environment where citizens actively participate in the voting process. He noted that he avoids endorsements because he feels the political landscape lacks genuine change, describing the current situation as a repetitive cycle of the same figures.

While he remains hesitant to support anyone currently, the rapper admitted he might change his mind if a candidate gained his absolute trust. Addressing concerns regarding election integrity, Falz challenged the idea that voting is futile. He pointed to the existence of vote-buying as clear evidence that political actors still value the power of the ballot.

To improve trust in the system, he called for the implementation of live electronic transmission for election results. He concluded by urging the youth to participate in large numbers, arguing that a massive voter turnout makes it significantly harder for electoral manipulation to occur.
