President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has greenlit the creation of a fresh Nigerian Army battalion stationed in Omu-Aran, located within the Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State. This strategic initiative aims to improve local security, as announced by Mashood AbdulRafiu Agboola, the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The deployment is intended to sharpen security responses against rising threats, such as banditry and kidnapping, that have impacted parts of the region. Governor AbdulRazaq expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu, noting that the addition of personnel and resources will bolster the state’s protective measures. He also thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for his quick action regarding the state’s request for a heightened military presence.
The Governor emphasized that the battalion will improve the effectiveness of local security forces in neutralizing criminal elements. He conveyed his appreciation on behalf of the state government, stating that the move fulfills a key commitment to the residents. Furthermore, AbdulRazaq acknowledged the collaborative roles of the National Security Adviser’s office, the military, the Department of State Services, and the police in maintaining order. The administration remains committed to backing ongoing efforts to eliminate violent crime and ensure public safety throughout Kwara State.
